By William Wallace

Oral health will give you confidence while you smile, open doors for you and allow you to bite of the best delicacies of the world. Brushing your teeth is one of the ways to maintain good oral hygiene. It comes with knowing how to select, use and maintain your brush. Here are professional dental brush tips to consider in order to maintain perfect oral health.

Brushes chosen and used should be comfortable to your mouth and hands. Experts insist that if you find trouble holding your toothbrush or inserting it into your mouth, cleaning will be a problem. There are brushes for children and adults and you must make the right choice. The nature of bristles will also determine whether it is appropriate or not.

The brushes chosen should have soft bristles. Some people feel comfortable using hard bristles because it appears as though they will clean your teeth better. The challenge is that they are likely to harm your gums. When they are too soft or too hard, they might not get to certain parts of your teeth. The correct bristles will reach all corners and in between the teeth, giving you a thorough cleaning.

Choose an appropriate brush depending on your size of mouth. Just like brushes, mouths come in small, medium and large. Small sized brushes are not for children. There are adult small, medium and large brushes. Small brushes will make it cumbersome to get to all corners of your mouth. A large one will also be difficult to maneuver. Ensure that you are brushing with the appropriate size in order to do a good job.

There is no difference in performance between the manual brushes and powered ones. It is all a matter of personal preference and convenience. Oral experts do not have a preference as long as you know how to clean your teeth. Furthermore, there are instructions you can use to guide you through brushing. Choose what you are comfortable with.

Brushing in the right way also contributes to oral hygiene. Brushing should be twice a day at least. Other experts insist on brushing after every meal. It is recommended that you use mouth wash in instances where brushing is a challenge. However, at least once every day, dedicate five or so minutes for thorough brushing where you use quality toothpaste and cover all corners of your mouth.

Brushing should also involve cleaning of the gums and tongue. These are areas that are likely to harbor food debris. This is why it is advisable to use a toothbrush with soft bristles to avoid hurting either the gums or tongue. Ensure that the toothbrush is angled slightly towards the gums to ensure that you reach the edges. Do not be too rough to avoid hurting your teeth and gums.

The toothbrush should be cleaned properly and stored in a dry place after use. Clean it and remove all the water that may remain to avoid buildup of microorganisms. It is these microorganisms that act on your teeth once you are done with cleaning. Toothbrushes need replacement every three to four months because the bristles have already weakened. This makes the ineffective to the point of failing to clean your mouth as desired.
